TIU Secures Second Place in Two-Day Tournament

The Kurdistan University Chess Championship was successfully held in Duhok, bringing together participants from ten governmental and non-governmental universities. The two-day tournament took place on November 22–23, 2025, under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Tournament Format and Results

The championship was conducted using the Swiss system, consisting of seven rounds with a 15-second increment. The competition witnessed intense rivalries both among universities and between individual players.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the University of Duhok, the President of the Union of Iraqi Universities, the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, as well as officials and representatives of relevant institutions. Awards and trophies were distributed to the winning teams and outstanding players.

The tournament highlighted the continuous development of chess in Kurdistan’s universities and reinforced the importance of intellectual sports in academic life.
